History

As our world rapidly globalizes, Cankiri Karatekin University aims to establish cooperation with educational institutes abroad so to improve the competitiveness of our university, enable the education of students, who are able to find a place for themselves in the international platforms, enrich the student profile of the university with foreign students, enhance the reputation of our university in the international arena parallel to the vision and the mission set. In this context, CNU has collaborated with New Zealand’s Waiariki Institute of Technology to offer a joint Associate’s Degree program in Hospitability Management, and is working on plans to offer more joint programs.

Furthermore, CNU has been awarded an Extended Erasmus University Charter and has made bilateral agreements allowing academic and student exchanges with several universities. Another outcome of our efforts to provide education at international standards is the study abroad program in the USA, which began several years ago and still continues. Having people, who can express themselves and communicate fluently in a foreign language is the key to the success of all these programs. Upon considering these objectives, we decided to establish a modern Language Learning Center, which offers the opportunity to learn Turkish and other foreign languages.

The International Language Center is located in an apartment, which occupies 2250sqm, 750sqm of which serves as the computer laboratories, classrooms, a testing center and administrative offices, and 1500sqm of which is a terrace for outdoor facilities. The Center is finished to a high standard equipped with necessary technologies. The Center comprises of four classrooms, administrative offices, two language labs and a testing center. Throughout the developmental stage of the Center, we worked in close cooperation with New Zealand’s Waiariki Institute of Technology Language Learning Center, the United State’s Howard Community College English Language Learning Center and Latvia’s Riga Technical University English Language Center and benefited from their experience and practices. Turkish and English speaking instructors, who help students develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills equally, are employed at the center. The International Language Center serves all the academic and administrative staff and the students of our university, public servants and the people of Cankiri.
