Introduction

In alignment with its vision and mission, Çankırı Karatekin University aims to enhance its competitiveness in the globalized world. By nurturing students who can thrive on international platforms, enriching the student body with foreign students, expanding international opportunities, increasing global recognition, and representing Turkey and its culture effectively, the university is dedicated to establishing partnerships with international educational institutions. Driven by this goal, the university has founded a modern Language Education Application and Research Center to teach both Turkish and foreign languages. This center was established with the approval of the Higher Education Council`s Executive Board on February 23, 2011. During its establishment phase, close collaboration was developed with institutions such as the Waiariki Institute of Technology Language Learning Center in New Zealand, Howard Community College English Learning Center, and Riga Technical University English Language Center, leveraging their expertise.

In September 2014, the center moved to its new location on the 6th floor of the old Rectorate building, featuring five classrooms, two language labs, a testing center, and offices. A team of Turkish and international instructors has provided services, allowing students to equally develop their speaking, writing, listening, and comprehension skills. Courses taught by foreign lecturers within the scope of Erasmus and the U.S. Study Abroad Program have been offered. Additionally, a partnership with Castle School of English in Brighton, England, opened opportunities for students to study abroad during the summer months.

In July 2024, the center relocated to its new address on Yeni Mahalle 15 Temmuz Şehitler Boulevard. The new facility includes six classrooms, a library, offices, a kitchen, a garden, and a canteen. With its ever-expanding physical, technological, and educational resources, the center continues to foster collaboration between the university and the local community in the field of language education. Since 2014, the center has been offering various courses, such as General English, YDS Preparation, Public Speaking, Academic Writing Techniques, Arabic, Ottoman Turkish, German, Persian, French, Russian, English for children, Fast and Effective Reading, Chess, and Mind Games. These courses are available both during the academic year and summer. With mandatory and elective English Preparatory Programs, as well as Turkish Education Programs for international students, the center`s total student enrollment reached 304 as of October 2024.

ÇAKÜ Language Education Center employs 10 lecturers and aspires to become an international hub for teaching Turkish and other languages.
